Competition compliance

Our role
UK Competitions Directory is a directory of competitions run by third-party operators. We do not usually run the competitions listed here. Our role is to collect, organise, and review listing information so users can find current UK competitions more easily.
Operators remain responsible for their own competitions, including legal compliance, entry handling, winner selection, prize fulfilment, data protection, and customer support.
Entry method badges
Listings may show one of these entry method labels:
- Free entry: the competition can be entered without payment.
- Paid with free route: the operator offers paid entry and states that a free entry route is available.
- Skill based: the operator states that the competition is decided by genuine skill, knowledge, judgement, or a judged entry mechanic.
These labels are based on information supplied by operators or found during our review. Users should always check the operator's own terms before entering.
What we check before publishing
Before approving a listing, we aim to check that:
- The operator can be identified and has a working website or entry page.
- The competition has a clear prize description.
- The competition has a clear closing date.
- The entry method is stated clearly.
- Any free entry route is visible, understandable, and not hidden in a way that would mislead users.
- Public terms and conditions are available and include key conditions.
- Important restrictions, such as UK-only or 18+ entry, are not omitted where they are apparent.
- The listing wording does not exaggerate the chance of winning or imply that a user is guaranteed to win.
When we may reject or remove listings
We may reject, archive, or remove a listing if:
- The operator cannot be identified.
- The entry URL, terms page, or competition page does not work.
- The free entry route is missing, unclear, unfairly restricted, or contradicted by the terms.
- The competition appears to be a lottery or chance-based paid draw without a genuine free route.
- The prize, closing date, eligibility, or winner selection details are unclear.
- The listing appears misleading, unsafe, spammy, copied, or unsuitable for users.
- The competition has expired or the operator changes the terms in a way that materially affects users.
Paid and featured listings
Paid plans and featured placements affect visibility and review priority. They do not remove the need for review, and they do not mean that we guarantee the operator or the prize. If a listing is paid, sponsored, or featured in a way that materially affects placement, we aim to make that clear to users.
Verified operators
A verified badge means we have carried out additional checks on the operator profile or listing information. It does not mean that we operate the competition, guarantee prize fulfilment, or promise that every detail will remain unchanged after review.
Guidance we consider
We consider UK promotional marketing principles, including the need for clear significant conditions, visible free-entry routes where applicable, closing dates, prize details, and fair administration. Operators should take their own legal advice where needed.
Useful external references include the ASA/CAP Code on promotional marketing and official guidance from relevant UK regulators. This page is a practical summary of our review approach, not legal advice.
Reporting an issue
If you spot a listing that appears wrong, expired, misleading, unsafe, or missing important information, please report it through the contact page with the page URL and a short explanation. We may contact the operator, update the listing, archive it, or remove it.
